Once again Bruce and I found we were in great need of some vitamin D so we hopped on the train to the Ticino region where the sun almost always shines. This time we decided to stop in Bellinzona the home of three castles.
Bellinzona was built as a fortress town in the era of Augusta Julius Cesar in the first century BC to protect Rome from the hordes of Europe..but as the centuries wore on it became an extremely important town protecting the trade route between Italy and the rest of Europe. ( This last paragraph was donated by Bruce.) Our goal was to visit all of them but we spent too much time at Castillo Grande the largest of the three and unfortunatley ran out of time. We plan to explore the other two with our vistors in June. Bonnie and Peter that would be you.
